If you have lived in Double Diamond or Damonte Ranch for more than a couple of years, you already know the shape of the neighborhood. What has changed in 2026 is how much of your week can happen inside a three-mile square. The stretch between Double R Boulevard, South Meadows Parkway, and the South Virginia corridor has quietly picked up half a dozen new tenants this spring, and the trail network on the east side of the neighborhood is doing more than it used to.
This post is a tour of that shift. Not a "best of" list. A snapshot of what is now within a short drive of your front door, and how the pieces connect on a Saturday.
The everyday radius, updated
Here is what has opened, expanded, or is under construction inside the Double Diamond and Damonte Ranch orbit in the last several months:

That is a lot of turnover in one corridor. A few of these arrivals deserve more than a row in a table.
The South Virginia and Double R corridor
Winners Crossing at 7671 S. Virginia had been carrying the empty Napa Sonoma space for a stretch. In November 2025 the owners of the Minden sports bar Cook'd announced a second location there, renovations started in December, and Cook'd officially opened on May 4, 2026, taking over the vacant space left by Napa-Sonoma on South Virginia Street. The menu mirrors the Minden location but with an elevated and expanded wine list. If you missed the Napa Sonoma era, the practical read is this: the address is back in rotation for a weeknight dinner within ten minutes of most Damonte Ranch driveways.
Two blocks of retail south, Shayden Summit picked up the second Reno Mochinut. More than a year after opening the first Mochinut in Reno, owner Jeff Wang opened his second location further south at the Shayden Summit mall, with a soft opening earlier that month before officially opening on May 15. The store sits at the former Starbucks site at 13981 S. Virginia St., Suite 400. Worth knowing if you have a kid who has been begging for the boba-and-donut combination and you have been driving past Meadowood to get it.
On Double R itself, Desi Flavors opened on Double R Boulevard in Reno on April 23, from a trio of brothers, adding an Indian option to a stretch that skews sports bar and fast casual. Two other names to file away for later in the year: Amici Pizzeria & Bar is the new concept from the owners of Lamppost Pizza in South Reno after Lamppost closed, and the owners of Big Horn Olive Oil Co. are opening a second location, landing in the South Meadows area.
South Meadows Promenade, the newer center at 537 S. Meadows Pkwy, is the piece most residents drive past twice a day. As of the most recent Yelp update in mid-2026, a new Starbucks just opened and is fully operating, with Jersey Mike's a work in progress at the same center. If you have been wondering why the traffic pattern near Double R and South Meadows shifted in the last quarter, that is why.
The point, not the parade
Here is the thesis under all of this. Double Diamond and Damonte Ranch were built as bedroom communities that sent residents north for anything beyond groceries. In 2026 the corridor that connects them is starting to function more like a small town main street stretched along one line. You now have a real dinner option, a real dessert option, an olive oil shop, a bakery-adjacent quick service, and a sports bar within roughly the same drive time it used to take to reach a single decent restaurant.
That is not a marketing statement. It is a routing observation. The number that matters is not how many new places opened, but how few miles separate them.
The east side does more than you think
The other quiet shift has been on the wetlands and trail side of the neighborhood. Most residents know Double Diamond Park at 9080 Jack Hammer Court as the playground and ball-field stop. Fewer treat it as a trailhead, which it is. The Erica Greif Memorial Trail from Double Diamond Park to the Truckee River is an easy 12.2 miles with about 91 feet of elevation gain, roughly three and a half to four hours end to end. That is a legitimate weekend push if you take it out and back, or a one-way if you can arrange a pickup at the river.
If you want the shorter local circuit instead, the Double Diamond Wetlands paths connect to the Community Pond loop, and the route now passes the new Swift Sportsdome before continuing around the pond. Signage on that stretch has improved over the last year, and the dome has changed what parents do with a Saturday morning that started sunny and turned windy at ten.
The Damonte Ranch side of the trail network has always been the underrated piece. The walking path around the wetlands at Center Creek Park connects to a large play structure, basketball court, and covered group area, and the 15-acre park with two tennis courts, two volleyball courts, a baseball and soccer field, a fitness trail, and covered picnic areas is the one to head to when you are hosting family who want a real park, not a pocket park.
One planning note for anyone driving to Double Diamond Park rather than walking in: parking hours run 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. from April 1 through September 30, and 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from October 1 through March 31. Trail itself stays open around the clock.
A weekend that never leaves the ZIP
To put the pieces together, here is a Saturday that stays inside 89521 from wake-up to bedtime:
- 7:30 a.m. Coffee at the new Starbucks at South Meadows Promenade, then a walk on the Wetlands loop past the Sportsdome
- 10:00 a.m. Errands at the Promenade while Jersey Mike's finishes its build-out
- 12:30 p.m. Lunch at Desi Flavors on Double R, or Yosh's Unique Deli or Squeeze In on the Damonte Ranch Parkway stretch that is packed with popular eateries just minutes from home
- 2:30 p.m. Kids to Comstock Park, which has room to run, large open grassy fields, a dog-friendly area, playground, covered picnic area, adult exercise equipment, and a baseball diamond
- 6:00 p.m. Dinner at Cook'd at Winners Crossing, or a longer table at South 40 at 1445 S. Meadows Parkway if you have a group and want the arcade and backyard
- 8:00 p.m. Mochinut at Shayden Summit on the way home
None of that requires I-580. That is the change worth noticing.
What this means for the corridor
Two years ago, a piece like this would have needed to send you to Meadowood or downtown for half of the stops. The 2026 version can be written entirely inside a triangle of Double R, South Meadows, and South Virginia between Damonte Ranch Parkway and roughly Zolezzi. Retail follows rooftops, and the rooftops have arrived. If you bought here in 2015 or 2018, the neighborhood you live in now is a materially different neighborhood than the one you moved into, even though the house looks the same.
The practical takeaway for residents: your errand loop can get shorter. The practical takeaway for anyone thinking about the corridor from the outside: the pattern of new tenants is filling in daily-life categories, not luxury or novelty ones. That is a healthier signal than a single high-profile opening would be.
